Frequently asked questions.
1. Do you cover the whole of the UK?
Yes – I cover the entire UK for events. Travel expenses are additional and calculated based on your location (e.g., mileage or train fare). I regularly perform across England, Scotland, Wales, and have international experience too. Just let me know your venue postcode for an accurate quote.
2. What equipment do you bring?
I supply all required equipment so you don’t need to worry about anything technical. This includes a small professional PA system, microphones, stands, cables, and a mixer – everything needed for clear, balanced sound in most venues. I just need a minimum 4m × 4m clear performance area and a standard 240V power socket nearby.
3. How long does setup take, and when do you arrive?
Setup takes about 30 minutes. I aim to arrive around 1 hour before your performance start time to allow for sound checks and any last-minute adjustments, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
4. What are your performance packages and prices?
I offer three flexible packages (priced per hour or part thereof):
Classic Jazz (£150/hr) – Timeless tenor saxophone standards with subtle swing and elegance.
Smooth Jazz (£175/hr) – Warm, sensual alto saxophone grooves for romance and relaxation.
Sax to The Max (£200/hr) – The full blend of both styles for maximum variety and soul. Sets are typically structured as 45 minutes of music + 15-minute break per hour (e.g., a 2-hour booking = two 45-minute sets with a break in between). Travel expenses are additional.
5. How do I book you?
First, check availability by contacting me via the form or email. Once confirmed, I’ll send a professional Musicians’ Union contract for you to review and sign, along with a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure the date. The balance is due on the day (cash/BACS) or can be pre-paid by bank transfer (cleared before the event).
6. What styles of music do you play?
I specialise in soulful smooth jazz (alto saxophone – think Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn) and classic/cool jazz standards (tenor saxophone – evoking Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Paul Desmond). Performances are backed by high-quality subtle tracks, keeping the saxophone as the emotional centerpiece. I can tailor the setlist to your preferences or event vibe.
7. How experienced are you?
I’m a full-time professional saxophonist with performances at iconic venues like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London), the Jazz Bar (Edinburgh), and even a private event for King Charles (at his 40th birthday). I’ve toured internationally (France, Denmark, Poland) and have years of experience at weddings, corporate functions, restaurants, date nights, and upscale events across the UK and beyond.
8. What’s a typical set length or event duration?
Bookings start from 1 hour, but most clients choose 2 hours for weddings or events. Each paid hour includes 45 minutes of continuous live saxophone + a 15-minute break (to keep the energy high and allow for mingling). The most popular is the 45-30-45 which is 2 × 45 minute sets with a 30 min break in the middle Longer or custom durations are fine – just discuss your schedule.
9. Can you perform outdoors or in unusual venues?
Yes, as long as there’s a suitable power source and space. I bring weather-resistant considerations where possible, but for outdoor events, please confirm shelter/cover options (e.g., marquee) to protect equipment. I’ve performed in a wide range of settings, from intimate restaurants to large corporate venues.
10. Do you offer duets, trios, or full band options?
Absolutely – while I specialise in stunning solo saxophone performances, I can expand to duets, trios, or a full band by collaborating with top musicians. Let me know your vision, and I’ll put together the perfect lineup.
